~ Why I Believe by D. James Kennedy

The Bible admonishes us to “be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a

reason for the hope that is in you.” Questions from sincere seekers and challenges

from unbelievers confront us everywhere. Why I Believe supplies ample ammunition

for our defense. Dr D. James Kennedy, from his lifetime of study, provides undeniable

evidence for the tenets of our faith. This study will be an extraordinary resource to

strengthen the foundations of your faith.

 7) WORLD MISSIONS

~ A Letter from Bruce & Katy Dockter

Dear Cornerstone Church Family,

Muy buenas tardes!

It is a warm afternoon in Oaxaca, as are most days in May. Most folks here would say it’s

hot, but they haven’t experienced a really HOT day in July or August in Turlock. Most of

our nights cool off; last week we had rain which help cool things down, what a blessing

that was. Today has been a relaxing day after a busy week, which the weekend will end

with busy activities. Tonight we are going to our Pastor’s house, thay have a very simple

“restraurant” which they open in their front yard every evening.  It’s one of our favorite

ways to spend an evening, good food, and good friends. We will have a bi-annual meeting

at Fuentes Libres (the women’s banking organization that Katy volunteers with). in the

evening which we will meet with one of the two Covenant Districts here in Oaxaca.

Katy and I will help JoEllen serve about 12 guests for dinner and discuss with the leadership

committee ideas for serving the churches in Oaxaca together. We are grateful for your

prayers and financial support of our work here. We are still not sure how much longer

God will ask us to stay, but for today we are here. We ask that you pray for us that we

would be faithful with our time ad energy as we serve the Covenant churches and the

people of Oaxaca.

Dios les bendiga,

Katy and Bruce

The Reed Family Update:

Dear friends and companions in prayer –

Imagine an intensive training event for evangelization and mission, hearing heart wrenching stores of the persecuted church and martyrs, singing songs of deep commitment and radical obedience.  Would you invite a non-Christian family to an event like this?  Probably not!  Well the last weekend of May we had a retreat and a non-Christian couple that are new to the church wanted to attend.  They came and loved it.  Not only did they like but received Christ. Last week in their home we witnesses them praying as a couple for the first time in their lives.  Wow!  How exciting!

We are in the midst of opening our RESOURCE CENTER for EVANGELIZATION & DISCIPLESHIP for SPAIN.  Besides providing Alpha resources for all of Spain, we have now translated, edited and are printing a book by Joel Comiskey, “Planting Churches that Reproduce”.  We are planning on translating and editing other books for cell groups and church that are intergenerational as well as resources out of the Freedom in Christ ministry in the United Kingdom.  Right now we are building a team of volunteer translators.

Good news, hard news.  The good news is that churches in Spain are growing.  The hard news is that the growth is primarily due to immigration and transfer growth.  Though a few Spaniards are coming to Christ (we have seen this recently in our own church), a realistic look at the church in the last ten years shows that there has been little to no growth among Spaniards.  WHAT MUST CHANGE?  God has called us to be fruitful and multiply.

Pray for our church and all of the churches in Spain to move out in

mission in new incarnational ways with the timeless truth of Jesus Christ.

(You can find the Reeds prayer request for the month of June in church foyer.)

Christ’s peace to you,

Rob, Nancy, Josué & Sofía Reed

9) SHARING THE WORD

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God. ” Romans 8:28

“We Know!”  Have you any word in your vocabulary stronger than that?  It is preeminently a New Testament word.  These people you read about in the Acts and the Epistles were people who know some things and were not afraid to testify, however much their testimony might startle and bewilder people who were without their experiences. How did Paul and the little group of Disciples in Rome know that?  In only one way: by experience.  It was not a theory they had accepted, a philosophy of life they had thought out.  They had been long enough in this way to be persuaded of the process of which they are speaking.  And it was a process, a process in which “All things”- not some things- all things “work together” to produce certain results.  Some things, standing by themselves, bewilder and terrify.

“All things work together” in beautiful and orderly harmony “for good!”
